July 2010 MOTAT OFFERS GOLDEN TICKET TO AUCKLAND CITY COUNCIL RESIDENTS
Auckland City Council residents can look forward to free fun and interactive experiences at MOTAT during the month of August. From 01 August – 31 August, Auckland City Council residents will gain free entry to MOTAT by presenting vouchers that will appear in local papers and letter boxes throughout the month, vouchers available at local libraries, or by displaying their rates bill or proof of address on entry. MOTAT Museum Director Jeremy Hubbard says that MOTAT prides itself on offering exciting and fresh exhibitions that bring to life New Zealand’s transport history. “All our exhibitions offer visitors the chance to engage with a piece of history that is truly unique to New Zealand, the Pumphouse for example was one reason MOTAT was founded. We want to offer Auckland City Council residents the chance to reconnect with these pearls of New Zealand history,” says Mr Hubbard. “We have something for every member of the family, whether it’s mum or dad interested in the history of our transport collection, or the kids who can’t wait to jump into Voyager1 or explore the Tactile Dome.” MOTAT’s latest attraction includes the ‘Treasure Hunt Weekend Experience’ where the kids can learn while they play, reading about historic New Zealanders and artefacts while searching for their next clue. In the spirit of showcasing some of New Zealand’s most historic artefacts – MOTAT is displaying photography of its collection taken by Auckland secondary school students in a new exhibition – ‘Through a Lens’. Students from Kings College, Henderson High School and Western Springs College sent in photographs and artwork of MOTAT’s historic artefacts, with the top 20 photographs and 33 pieces of artwork then chosen to be displayed in the ‘Through a Lens’ exhibition.
