MOTAT OFFERS FREE GOLDEN TICKET TO AUCKLAND REGION SENIORS
MOTAT is giving Auckland region seniors over 65 the opportunity to turn back the clock and relive their golden days for free.
From 01 April – 30 June 2010, residents with a Super Gold Card living in Rodney, North Shore City, Auckland City, Waitakere City, Manukau City, Papakura and Franklin districts, can enjoy all MOTAT has to offer at no cost.
Jeremy Hubbard, MOTAT Museum Director, said that MOTAT is offering the promotion to give back to a group that has invested so much time and energy in the Museum over the 46 years it has been open.
“Auckland region residents over 65 are particularly fond of MOTAT and some have even contributed the artefacts we have on show here at the Museum. The input, knowledge and support that Auckland region seniors offer is invaluable to us and helps contribute to the rich history we have here at MOTAT,” said Mr Hubbard.
Visitors can travel between MOTAT’s two sites on the beautifully restored trams enjoying the array of activities on offer, such as MOTAT’s popular book binding workshops – available for those interested in the art. For something truly unique watch MOTAT’s blacksmith at work in the forge on a Tuesday and Thursday from 11am-3.30pm.
Chat with the volunteers restoring some of MOTAT’s historic road transport collection on Wednesdays and Sundays, or take a guided tour around the Pumphouse on weekdays or see the working Beam Engine in action on Thursdays.
MOTAT also boasts engaging exhibitions that are sure to provide the perfect afternoon outing. Embark on an intrepid journey with MOTAT’s ‘900 South - Sir Edmund Hillary and the NZ Antarctic Expedition 1956-8’ exhibit, or slip on your gumboots and explore farming and agricultural technology history in MOTAT’s new ‘Rattle Your Dags’ exhibit - due to open April 05 2010.
“There is plenty to see and do here at MOTAT during the cooler months, so we welcome people to come on in and enjoy the Museum. There is also plenty for children to interact with too, so we encourage grandparents to bring their grandchildren along for an enjoyable day out,” says Mr Hubbard.
After all that excitement enjoy a well deserved rest at Araroa Tearooms and catch-up with friends over a cup of tea and a scone.
*Due to mechanical issues or volunteer availability, the Beam Engine may not always run like clockwork. Please check with MOTAT staff or call us to confirm upcoming operating times.
