Are older members of your community involved in your school? MOTAT is supporting you and the Office for Senior Citizens ‘Greats and Grands Month’ this October by giving FREE entry to all Greats and Grands who accompany students on a school trip to MOTAT. Our new exhibitions that showcase New Zealand in the 1940’s and 50’s enable your students to explore change since their grandparent’s day. What’s NEW in 2010?

New Year! New Class! New Challenges  . . .  are you ready?

This programme is designed to give students an opportunity to investigate New Zealand identity, culture, Kiwiana, famous New Zealanders and historic events that have shaped our nation. This programme examines those iconic things that we nostalgically identify as “Kiwi As”.

The hands on workshop gives students the opportunity to touch classic Kiwiana items, artefacts from our past, flags, emblems and traditional Kiwi icons. Students are told the stories behind these objects and are encouraged to think critically about what they tell us about ourselves.

Students will explore MOTAT’s many exhibitions with our self-guided ‘Kiwi Identity’ trail. The trail includes focus questions to motivate discussion, as well as supporting information about the displays.

The Great Race Team Building programme will develop and strengthen the Key Competencies in your class. In this fun, hands-on programme students form teams and race against the clock. Students will discover how the Victorian way of life can help them to relate to others, manage self, think, participate and contribute in an environmentally friendly way.

“Thank you for a great experience. Our tamariki learned that we all have different strengths apart and that together we are stronger”

Moana
